Home of the 2006 New Zealand Open and venue for the 1998 Golf World Cup. This international golf course, practice facilities and club house are only matched by the challenge from the tees.
Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., arguably the world’s finest designer of classic golf courses, the Gulf Harbour Country Club course is set against the spectacular backdrop of the Hauraki Gulf.
From its cliff top and coastal fairways, the course has panoramic views of Auckland’s Haurakai Gulf and the distant Coromandel peninsula.
Formosa Golf Resort course covers an area of 440 acres which makes it New Zealand’s longest championship course at 6650 metres off the Pro (Black) Tees. The 18 hole golf course has been designed by Bob Charles and has a par of 72 which is longer than any other existing course in New Zealand. There are 4 tees per hole: forward, regular, championship, and professional; so that everyone can play and enjoy the course.
Situated in Manukau City, within easy driving distance of Auckland International Airport and only 20 minutes drive from the centre of Auckland City, The Grange Golf Club is one of New Zealand’s best courses. It offers excellent facilities and a championship standard course suitable for players of all abilities.
The Grange golf course is always immacuately presented and is an excellent test of golf. Visitors from around the world are made welcome, and the course has hosted every major New Zealand tournament, both amateur and professional. The New Zealand Open Championship has often been held on the course, most recently in January 2004.
You can’t help but enjoy the splendour and challenge presented by the legendary Dr Alistair MacKenzie only 20 minutes from downtown Auckland.
Recent course updates and the subtle cunning of one of the great masters of golf course design provide interest, variety and a true golfers test at this his only New Zealand masterpiece - the Titirangi Golf Club.
Reminiscent of another of his famous designs - Augusta - with the ‘Amen Corner’ at 12, 13 & 14 - this is a memorable walk among tall exotics, native New Zealand bush and undulating landscape. People who have played the MacKenzie designed Pasatiempo Golf Club near San Francisco will be able to recognise the subtle similarities.
Dr MacKenzie said “A really great golf course must be a constant source of pleasure to the greatest number of players. It must require strategy in the playing as well as skill. It must give the average player a fair chance and at the same time, it must require the utmost from the expert. All natural beauty should be preserved, natural hazards should be utilized and artificiality should be minimized.” and this is certainly true of Titirangi.
